Who Can Get A California CCW Permit:  How to qualify can be different in every county since each sheriff has control over that. For those of you living in El Dorado County, Placer County, Sacramento County, San Joaquin County, or Sutter County, this is some of the basic criteria.

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Be a resident of the county you are applying through.
  • Pass the criminal/mental background check.
  • Not use or be addicted to any illegal drug.
  • Complete the required firearms training course.
  • Have a statement of “good cause” which is the reason you want or need a concealed weapons permit.  In these 5 counties, “PERSONAL PROTECTION’ is sufficient cause.

How To Get Started: Go online to your sheriff department and go to the CCW section. Fill out and submit the application and “click” on the appointment calendar and schedule your initial appointment.
